Rush Street Interactive Levels Up Cloud Security with Teleport

About Rush Street Interactive

Rush Street Interactive (NYSE: RSI), founded in 2012, is a leading online gaming and sports entertainment company. With a mission to deliver the most fun, friendly, and fair online gaming experience across the Americas, RSI operates digital casino and sportsbook platforms that prioritize accessibility, engagement, and the thrill of winning—anytime, anywhere.

Challenge: Removing Engineering Friction from Infrastructure Access

Before implementing Teleport, RSI faced significant friction managing infrastructure access across environments. SSH key management and VPN access consumed valuable time, requiring frequent manual intervention and custom tooling to support session recording and maintain firewall rules.

To support its vision, RSI's security team is tasked with strengthening infrastructure defenses, improving security visibility, and accelerating incident handling across a complex multi-cloud environment.

Automation tools like Ansible and Terraform helped, but still left gaps in operational efficiency and security posture. The reliance on inbound SSH access and persistent credentials presented risks the team wanted to eliminate.

Solution: Short-Lived Credentials, SSO, and Reverse Tunnels

Rush Street Interactive selected Teleport for its comprehensive approach to managing infrastructure access. High impact capabilities included:

  • Short-lived SSH and Kubernetes privileges for both human and machine identities
  • SSO and RBAC support to streamline access management
  • Reverse tunnel architecture, eliminating inbound connections and associated maintenance of firewall rules
  • SOC 2 Type 2 compliance, meeting regulatory standards

Initially deployed self-hosted, RSI later migrated to Teleport Cloud.

Result: Less Friction, More Control

Since adopting Teleport, RSI has dramatically improved its security operations and DevOps efficiency:

  • Access provisioning is 3x faster during employee onboarding
  • SSO and RBAC support to streamline access management
  • SSH ports are eliminated via reverse tunnels, reducing attack surface
  • Privileged access is tightly controlled with short-lived credentials that eliminate standing privileges
  • Audit logs and session recordings offer full traceability and simplified compliance

Teleport integrates seamlessly with RSI’s technology stack, including AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Linux, Docker, Jenkins, Jira, and Terraform. The team also uses Teleport Machine & Workload Identity to securely authenticate non-human workloads in CI/CD workflows.

What's Next

Rush Street Interactive plans to expand its use of Teleport Machine & Workload Identity to more CI/CD workflows, continuing to tighten the security of automation across environments.
